New Campaign Helps Parents Talk to Children about Underage Drinking

The Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), the US Surgeon General and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) recently launched “Talk. They Hear You," a national public service announcement campaign that educates parents about talking to young children about the dangers of underage drinking. The campaign kickoff was held in conjunction with SAMHSA’s 2013 National Prevention Week. More than 25 percent of Americans 18 and younger drink alcohol. "Talk. They Hear You,” raises parents' awareness of these issues and provides information to help them start a conversation about alcohol with their pre-teen children.
