Older Adult Tech Use is Rising

Even though they are thought of as late adopters of technology, seniors 65 or older are moving into the digital world in greater numbers. According to the Pew Research Center, this is of significance to those providing government services, health resources, and social support. 59% of all seniors are going online which is a substantial 6% increase in one year. 47% have a broadband connection at home and 77% use cell phones. Older Americans can be divided into 2 groups. One group is younger, higher educated, and more affluent. 90% of seniors with an income of $75K use the internet. The other group is older, less wealthy, and often disconnected from the idea of technology due to disability and/or mindset. Only 39% of those with an income of less than $30K go online. One challenge is that many seniors have health issues that serve as barriers to using digital technology. But those that join the digital world, are regular daily.
